Green Alternatives
What are Green products and their advantages?
Every individual should consider using products that do not have parabens in them. This is due to the skin being one of the most important organs of the body that protects us and absorbs about 60% of what we put on it. Every day, humans use many products such as lotion, shampoo, deodorant, perfume that are created by many chemicals which lead to many disorders. These chemicals also lead to the oceans and affect many other animals. Humans need to start taking action by no longer using these products and using green alternatives. Green products and technologies have many advantages such as to the environment and humans. These products help the environment because they do not go to large landfills, don’t affect global warming and doesn't create toxic wastes. These products help humans because they are safer for them to use and don’t lead to diseases.

In order for a product to be considered natural it must have the following characteristics: efficient use of materials, recyclable, and does not affect the environment it’s created in. Green products are considered kinder to the environment than non-green goods, in one way or another. A product is considered earth-friendly if it is eco-friendly, meaning that it will pose no threat to the earth and environment, when it is released to the air, water or earth while in use or when disposed of. All personal care products must be approved by the USDA for it to be considered a green product. When a product is prepared by agricultural ingredients, and meets the USDA organic production, handling and processing principles; it may be considered an organic product. For a product to be considered green it must be created by all organic ingredients and the labels must identify these products.

How are Green Products Manufactured?
When a product is being manufactured and it does not use ingredients that damage the biodiversity the product is claimed to be organic. Similarly, ingredients that have been modified or engineered are not considered to be organic. Ingredients that are natural must be restricted to substances that are retrieved from plants, animals or minerals. In addition, it may not give harm to the environment surrounding it during the process of creating the product. The company is held for the responsibility of checking the safety of each ingredient in the product.
Many Countries including Canada have no standards or guidelines for products that are natural and the labelling of all products. Meanwhile, many are looking for strict standards for the definition of organic. Since there are no standards for these products, many manufacturers do not include all ingredients on labels. Products that have been approved by USDA are always identified on the products. Manufactures have used science to create technologies that create green products without effecting the environment. These technologies could make huge impacts by using less energy, water and other products to create the product.

What Is an Alternative Product to Paraben?
Many stores offer Paraben-free products to consumers; these items may contain ingredients, such as organic acids, that help to preserve formulas without harmful side effects. Examples of organic acids used in the place of Parabens include sorbic acid, sodium benzoate, and potassium sorbate. Organic acids are made up of naturally occurring acid and salts. Their un-dissociated acidic form makes organic acids a powerful agent against the molds and yeasts that would otherwise grow in partially liquid cosmetics such as makeup and hair products. On the products, it should list that it is Paraben free. Examples of brands that are Paraben Free are Aveda, Korres and Burt’s Bees. Meanwhile, there are natural alternatives that offer limited antibacterial protection. Grapefruit seed extract essential oils of thyme, oregano and tea tree, as well as rosemary and neem extracts are protective against strains of bacteria and rancidity. Essential oils and vitamins may be paired with other natural substances to make for an effective preservative. Unfortunately though, on their own, these products do not last as long as products containing Parabens. Another alternative preservative that is beginning to be used in skin care and beauty products, especially those that claim to be pure and natural, is Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, which is a chemical that is derived from an amino acid called glycine that occurs naturally.
